I found a weblog of a guy named Justin who moved into San Francisco about a year ago and covered his apartment hunt in his blog. The most useful post is How to find an apartment in San Francisco. His apartment hunt ordeals are then detailed in his The Great San Francisco Apartment Hunt posts, part 1 and part 2, but while they are a good read, they’re not quite as useful.

It’s tough right now because the housing market in SF is down meaning that more people are renting. On the upside, there are any number of apartments available so if you don’t get too tied to a particular neighborhood, you’ll find something easy. Finding something in a particular neighborhood takes some diligence. Good luck!
